101 is a simple as our 1–5 step fiberglass tub fixing process.

Repair.  We were challenged with repair of structural issues. Certainly, this tub cracked because of a deteriorated cement base under the tub. So, we created a cement support to bolster the stability. Then, we applied out industrial strength filler and sanded it smooth with a high speed grinder.

Fixing The Fiberglass

Etching. For the sake of bonding, we etch the shower surface with an eco-friendly stain. Thus, this achieves a porous surface to which the final sealer bonded, producing a watertight seal. This important step in fixing fiberglass tubs is performed with care.

Primer and Coating. Fourth, multiple coats of waterproofing paint sealer are applied. As a result, this step gives our customers their "like new" shower!

3 Reasons For A Flaky Tub

There are three main factors that can lead to a flaky or peeling tub.

1. Suction cup bath mats. Unfortunately, using this helpful anti-slip grip solution can cause coating failure. Primarily, this because of mold and mildew. These intruders can accumulate on the bottom of the mat, eating right through the coating! When the mat is lifted, it causes the tub or shower floor to come up along with the mat!
2. Improperly cleaned surface. No bond can achieve with the  coating if there is a dirt barrier.
3. No acid-etch. If the existing glass of the porcelain is not etched-off, the primer has no surface bonding properties. Some companies use a wipe-on-primer that is designed to create a chemical bond to the shiny surface. The truth is, these primers are unreliable and have a shelf life of about 30 days once the can has been opened. Thus, it becomes unstable toward the 30 day mark.

This bathtub was in dire need of help. Thankfully, they called Tuff Tubs. We have a basic 1-2-3 tub repair procedure: repair, reseal, repaint.

Repair to Reseal

We first cut out the delaminating portion of the tub. Then, we sanded the edges of the old surface. Of course, this helps with bonding properties and smoothing out the bathtub. After the damaged tub section was removed, we proceeded to fill the hole with watertight resin. We then sanded it down to insure a flush surface. We were then ready for priming. Priming creates bond and level surface.

Reseal to Repaint

To make things clear, the paint step accomplishes two main goals. One, it provides a watertight seal. Two, it gives you control.
