3 Dangers Of DIY Tub Reglazing

Perhaps, you are a go-getter when it comes to DIY projects? Penny pincher? Maybe, too confident? At Tuff Tub Refinishing, this is precisely what we see happening with bathtub repair. Time and time again, over zealous folks think they can attempt DIY projects, and end up paying way more when we have to come in to fix a messed up job. As a result, we consistently see 3 dangers of DIY tub reglazing.

Dangers Of DIY Tub Reglazing

  1. Surfaces not properly etched. Importantly, this is the primary and foundational issue that DIY optimists miss.
  2. Surfaces not sanded properly. Even if an etch is attempted, the residue is often not removed. Sadly, this can lead to bonding issues.
  3. Surfaces not prepped and masked off. This is crucial to achieve a uniform tub reglazing coat.

Solution

One, surfaces need professional etching. This includes, using industrial grade acid to properly etch ceramic tile and porcelain tub surface.

Two, surfaces need sanding to remove residue of the etching process. In the long run, this allows for a better bond.

Three, surfaces need prepping and masking. Additionally, the material needs to be applied with a HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) system. This ensures that most of the material goes on the tub and less material gets airborne. Therefore, less overspray is achieved.

We see more and more folks calling us after they try a DIY tub reglazing kit. Unfortunately, it adds about $300 additional dollars to strip off the old paint, because we can’t spray over a bad job. At Tuff Tubs, we can save you thousands of dollars over the cost of a new bathtub install. If you forestall the DIY gusto, we can save you hundreds. Thankfully, our products are eco-friendly. Our technicians are polite and professional. Basically, we are in and out. As a bonus, we offer limited warranties on our craftsmanship.

Call us today for a free over the phone estimate, and forego the dangers of DIY tub reglazing.

Tub Floor Fix

Recently we came across a tub where the support under the floor had become unstable. What to do... Tuff Tub Refinishing can answer your question with a resounding no! Bathtub repair and refinishing are great options to achieve a like new bathtub, shower, or sink.

Bathtub Repair

Procedure

Recently, we tackled just such a tub floor fix.

This tub was in need of much help. Thankfully, Tuff Tubs was on the scene in no time. We have a basic 1-2 punch for our tub floor fix procedure: repair and reseal.

Repair

We had to cut out the floor from the delaminating portion of the tub (see crack on the left). Then, we troweled in a filler and reattached the floor. Next, we sanded the edges of the old surface. In fact, this helps with bonding properties and smoothing out the bathtub. After the damaged tub section was removed, we proceeded to fill the hole with watertight resin. We then sanded it down to insure a flush surface. We were then ready for priming. Priming creates bond and level surface.

Reseal

To make things clear, the paint step accomplishes two main goals. One, it provides a watertight seal. Two, it gives you control. A beautiful tub, sink, countertop, or shower adds beauty that allows you to relax in that bubble bath or stress releasing shower. A tub repair by the experts at Tuff Tubs is your solution to a delaminating tub or shower!

Not only is our work top notch, but we are efficient and honest. In your best interests, we won't wrangle about prices or give you a line. Helpfully, we can be in and out in a few hours. Your tub floor fix project is ready for use in a few short days.

Please call us to today for a free over-the-phone estimate. With a tub floor fix, you can save thousands and get a like new bathtub, shower, or sink!

We test our basic five step tub repair process on site, and modify it for each specific situation.

Prep. First, we remove all caulking and loose debris. This allows for tighter adhesion. Using sanding and utility knives, we precisely keep the surface as smooth as possible.

Repair. Next up, the cast iron tub repair. We apply our industrial strength filler and sand it smooth with a high speed grinder. Not only does this encourage a super flush surface, it also is an eye catcher as well!

Etching. For the sake of bonding, we etch the shower surface with an eco-friendly stain. Consequently, this achieves a porous surface to bond final sealer, producing a watertight seal. This important step in cast iron tub repair is performed precisely.

Primer and Coating. Fourth, we apply multiple coats of waterproofing paint sealer. As a result, you get a "new" bathtub!
